How to use Gantt

Use this guide to operate the Gantt viewer, including schedule selection, grouping, filters, path tools, display settings, and exports.

Quick Start

  1. Open a project workspace and choose Gantt from the project-level module buttons.
  2. Select the schedule and optional baseline schedule.
  3. Use Group By, Collapse To, Search Activities, and Filter to shape the activity list.
  4. Use the timeline controls to zoom, fit, scroll, and inspect activities.
  5. Use Print, Export, or Export Schedule from the bottom action bar when you are ready to share or download.

Open the Gantt viewer

  1. Go to a project workspace.
  2. Choose Gantt in the Project level modules section.
  3. Use Open Gantt to launch it in the embedded workspace.
  4. Use the expand control to review the Gantt in full-screen workspace mode.
  5. Use Open in new tab if you want the Gantt separate from the project page.

Load and switch schedules

  1. Use the main schedule selector to choose the current schedule.
  2. Use the baseline selector to choose the comparison schedule when baseline bars are needed.
  3. If using the standalone viewer, drop a XER schedule into the drop zone or use Select .xer file.
  4. Use Select baseline .xer when the standalone viewer needs a separate baseline file.
  5. Use Reset Filters to clear filters without changing the loaded schedule.

Use WBS grouping and row controls

  1. Use Group By to choose WBS Code or another available grouping.
  2. Use Collapse To to choose the default WBS depth shown on screen.
  3. Click WBS headers to expand or collapse individual sections.
  4. Use row selection circles or activity rows to select a specific activity.
  5. Use the left activity table and right timeline together; scrolling keeps the rows aligned.
  6. Use the column divider or available column controls to adjust the activity table when text needs more space.

Search and filter activities

  1. Type into Search Activities to filter rows by activity ID or name.
  2. Click Filter to open filter controls.
  3. Use float filters such as Any Float, 0d, 5d, 10d, or 20d where available.
  4. Use activity-code filters by selecting a code type and then a value.
  5. Use scope controls such as Full Schedule or All Activities to return to a wider activity set.
  6. Remove active filter chips to clear individual filters.

Use activity details and path tools

  1. Click an activity row or bar to select it.
  2. Use Show Popups to enable or disable hover/detail popups.
  3. Use Calculate Critical Path to This Activity when you want the viewer to trace to the selected activity.
  4. Use Show Driving Predecessors to highlight predecessor logic for the selected activity.
  5. Use Show Driving Successors to highlight successor logic for the selected activity.
  6. Use Clear Highlighted Path to remove the path highlight.
  7. Use the Logic toggle to show or hide relationship lines when available.

Adjust display and colors

  1. Use Show Metrics to show or hide the metrics cards above the Gantt.
  2. Use Columns to choose which left-table fields are visible.
  3. Use WBS Colors or WBS Level Colors to change WBS row coloring.
  4. Use Bar Colors or Bar & Milestone Colors to change activity and milestone colors.
  5. Use Show Planned to show or hide planned/baseline-style bars where available.
  6. Use Health Panel, Legend, or Health Flags from the options area when you need those panels visible.

Use actions and exports

  1. Use Print to open the printable Gantt output.
  2. Use Export to download the current Gantt view data or visual export available in the module.
  3. Use Export Schedule to download the schedule output when that option is enabled.
  4. Use Reset Scenario when what-if or scenario edits are active.
  5. Use Reset Filters before exporting if you want the full activity set included.
